No wonder they called this country a Bird of Gold. Throughout the ancient and medieval ages, there was an abundance of gold in India, which was gradually pillaged over the years by foreign invaders. Statues and sculptures like these were very common. Apart from the gold itself, the intricate carving in such figurines speaks volumes of the ancient Indian art. Courtesy: National Museum, New Delhi
